He was ordained in a ceremony in February 2022, presided over by His Grace Bishop Iakovos Savva (of Claudioupolis) and by The Very Reverend Archimandrite Damianos Constantinou (Priest-in-Charge at the Greek Orthodox Church of St Catherine, Barnet).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nicholas Karous, the Church Community President, said: \u2018We are so pleased that our beloved Father Spyridon has been honoured in this way. He has been part of our church community since 1987 and is one of the most loved and respected members of our congregation. We are privileged to have him with us.&#8217; The priest-in-charge at the church, Reverend Protopresbyter Vasileios Papathanasiou added, \u2018It is a pleasure to serve with him for twelve years. He is always at my side when I need him\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our Protopsaltis and member of the Community Council Savvas Pavlides said, &#8216;It is an honour to have Father Spyridon next to me or in the opposite Left Hand Chanter for the last 12 years (2010-2022).I feel blessed and honoured to work with him as an adviser and collaborator. He has a heavenly voice which moves the congregation every time he chants. I wish him well and look forward to seeing and hearing his continued contribution to our community&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Holy Cross and Archangel Michael Church Community honoured The Very Reverend Archimandrite Spyridon Papa Gabriel after the Sunday liturgy on 3rd April 2022. \u00a0A celebratory tea was organised and the hall was packed with well wishers.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Father Spyridon is very honoured to have recently been ordained Archimandrite and would like to thank\u00a0His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas for his decision, and\u00a0His Grace\u00a0Bishop Iakovos Savva (of Claudioupolis) and\u00a0The Very Reverend Archimandrite Damianos Constantinou for making this possible.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Father Spyridon has served the Holy Cross and Saint Michael Church in Golders Green since 1987\u00a0alongside late Bishop Aristarchos Mavrakis\u00a0(of Zinoupoleos) and for the last 10 years,\u00a0he is still happy to serve the communityalongside Father Vasileios Papathanasiou the priest-in-charge.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Father Spyridon has followed his father\u2019s footsteps who was a priest in Cyprus in Larnaca, Livadhia village. \u00a0Father Spyridon\u00a0has always been fully committed and devoted in serving the community with great passion especially during the pandemic providing support to people by phone.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Father Spyridon is also delighted to be receiving from the Mayor of Barnet on the 6<sup>\u03bf\u03c5<\/sup>\u00a0April a\u00a0Certificate Scroll of Lifetime Achievement. This follows after he was awarded the London Borough of Barnet civic community award in 2007 for his services to the church and to the borough.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His only wish is that \u2013 he wishes his wife was still alive as he misses her a great deal. His wife (Presvidera Tasoulla Gabriel) passed away during the pandemic.
